Connectivity is King in Holland: 97% of Dutch households have internet access, the country has a 4G availability of 86,6%, it is home to the world's leading internet exchange AMS-IX, and to the NL-IX, the Interconnect exchange that holds a 7th place globally. Furthermore, the ambition by the Dutch government to give all household access to 100Mbit/s connections in 2025, shows that the Dutch take connectivity seriously.
Growing data centers
The Netherlands has become a country of data centers, with an average annual growth of 17,5% over the last six years. Hyperscale areas are emerging in Groningen (Eemshaven) and in the north of North-Holland (Agriport A7). These data centers and hyperscales rely on energy, and the Netherlands offers them an availability grid of 99.9943% (CEER, 2016). From 2020 onwards, we expect the green energy supply to grow with more than 1 GW every year.
In 2015, around one third of the Dutch population reported to store files in the cloud, which puts the Netherlands in the EU top four of countries using cloud-based services. There are many important cloud and hosting companies, such as Huawei, Softlayer and Microsoft Azure, who settled in Holland, because of its professionalism, transparency and quality.
Meet the ecosystem
No renowned Data Hub without support system. The Dutch digital industry is surrounded by an excellent ecosystem of peers, start-ups and multinationals. Companies such as Uber, Tesla, Netflix, Cisco, Palo Alto Networks and Oracle have chosen Amsterdam as the center of their European expansion, partly because of its English-speaking workforce, entrepreneurial climate, favorable tax regulations and the strong digital infrastructure.
On January 24, 2018, the European industry will meet in RAI Amsterdam for KickStart Europe 2018. Meet the ecosystem for the latest trends, outlooks and investments regarding European connectivity, data center and cloud industry. Find more info on www.kickstartconf.eu
